Steganography

Hiding Secrets in Plain Sight

By RecOsint | Dec 3, 2025

This is not just a photo. You see a picture of a sunset or a cute cat. But inside the pixels, hidden where the human eye cannot see, is a Secret Message or even a Computer Virus. This art is called Steganography.

Encryption: Scrambles the message so you can't read it (like a locked box). Steganography: Hides the message so you don't even know it exists (like a false bottom in a suitcase).

Encryption vs. Steganography

The "Least Significant Bit" (LSB) Digital images are made of pixels. Each pixel has a color value. Hackers slightly change the color of the last bit of every pixel. Result: The image looks 100% identical to the naked eye, but the computer reads the hidden code inside.

Attack: They post a funny meme on Twitter (X). Payload: The meme contains hidden commands that wake up a virus already sleeping on your PC. The antivirus ignores it because it's just a JPEG.

Malware in Memes

We use Steganalysis tools that look for statistical anomalies in the image file. Lesson: In the digital world, trusting your eyes is not enough.
