The Machine Looks Normal. You go to an ATM or a Gas Station pump. You insert your card, type your PIN, and get your cash. Everything seems fine. But you just gave a hacker your bank details. You fell victim to a Skimmer.

A "Skimmer" is a device that fits perfectly OVER the real card slot. – Function: When you slide your card, it reads the magnetic stripe. – Appearance: It looks identical to the original machine, often 3D printed to match the color.

The Fake Overlay

They Need Your PIN Too. Stealing the card data isn't enough; they need the password. – Hidden Camera: Tiny pinhole cameras hidden in the plastic molding above the screen. – Fake Keypad: Sometimes, they place a fake rubber keypad on top of the real buttons to record your keystrokes.

Hackers are in a rush, so they use cheap glue or tape to attach skimmers. Always do this:Grab the card reader (the green plastic part) and Wiggle It (Shake it hard). – Real: Won't move. – Fake: Will feel loose or pop off in your hand.

The "Wiggle Test"

Skimmers rely on the "Magnetic Stripe" (Swiping/Inserting). – Defense: Use Tap-to-Pay (NFC) or Apple/Google Pay whenever possible. Skimmers cannot read wireless data easily. – Rule: If the machine looks old or broken, find another one.

Use Contactless (NFC)
